300:Rise of the empire Visual Codes

Visual Codes
The colour red is scattered all over the screen at the beginning of the trailer. The colour red often indicates danger and blood. This colour is used specifically to show that the film is violent straight from the beginning. We then see a bladed looking weapon approaching the throat of the man on the floor. Low key lighting is used to show the theme of the film, which is quite war heavy and dark. High and Low key lighting is also used to show the two different sides of good and evil, for example the white purity of good and the blackness and fire of evil. This film in the trailer looks to be set in various different places, from battles on the seas to dark streets in ancient Rome. The majority of this film seems to be set in dark and gloomy environments with battles happening constantly. We can also get a feel to when this film was set due to what the characters are wearing, they are wearing ancient armour with swords and shields, this shows the film is set in non modern day as wars are no longer fought with swords and shields.

Audio Codes
Non diegetic music is played throughout the film trailer. The music being played is quite classical music  which indicates the era of which this film is set. The non diegetic music stops and starts throughout the trailer mainly to highlight dramatic parts of the film where the it all goes quiet and the focus is on the diegetic sound of the characters.

Technical codes
The camera angle of a medium shot is used at the beginning of the trailer, it is used to show the man with a large axe, this shows the audience viewing the trailer the type of aggression this character has towards the man on the floor. Then a close up of the man on the floor is shown, this is to show his facial expression. The axe is noticeable also in this close up as you can see it slowly approaching his face, the axe is slowly travelling film.

Peppa Pig and Towie gratifications

Intended Audience: The intended audience for Peppa Pig is young children in an age range of 2-5. The the show accommodates its target audience by keeping the show simple so it is easy for young children to follow. The intended audience is also shown to be children in Peppa Pig as things such as bright colours and simple animations so that the show appeals to the audience of young children.

Gratifications: The programme satisfies the younger children by being simple episodes that they are able to relate to. Humour that is used is used is humour that can be easily understood by the child watching the show. This is good as it means the enjoyment of the show will be enjoyed a lot more by the child as the show will make them laugh.

How is it constructed?: The show is constructed to ensure children are able to watch it, this is done by making the show very short so that the intended audience does not lose concentration. By the show being short it is finished before the child becomes bored and no longer pays attention to the episode. It is also constructed to make sure that the children are easily able to view the storyline as it has a clear beginning, middle and end, this is good because as young children tend not to be very intelligent they will not lose track of what is happening as they can identify the structure of each episode.

Intended Audience: The intended audience for this TV show is people in the age range of 15-30. The show accommodates its target audience by being relevant to people in that age range by people in the show wearing fashionable clothing and dealing with problems such as relationship issues that are relatable to people that are in that particular age range. Language is also a key factor as the use of swear words is common in The Only Way Is Essex, this is also relevant to the target audience as the people who watch the show are mature enough to use the language themselves.

Gratifications: The programme is developed so that there is a story line to it, due to the age of the audience they are able to tune in and watch the show for a long period of time and continue to follow the story line without losing interest in the show, unlike the audience of Peppa Pig. By adding an extensive story line to the show enhances the enjoyment of the audience as it will grip them and ensure that they tune into the show the following week.

How is it constructed?: The Only Way Is Essex is constructed so that people over the age of 15 are able to watch it, this is done by using different types of references that may only be understood by people over the age of 15. It also picks certain characters to use in each show, as it is a reality TV show it will use the most interesting events to create a story line , the use of a story line keeps the audience entertains and ensures that the TV show does not lose viewers.

Class system: Royal Baby, Green Street Hooligans, Too old to work, Eastenders, Firday night dinner

Class: In this video class is represented in a positive way as it shows Prince William and Princess Kate leaving a 'posh' London hospital with their new born baby and future king 'George'. The class is highlighted on the video as it says in big bold white writing "Royal Baby Makes 1st Appearance" this shows what class the family itself is as it is not being described as any ordinary baby, it is being described as a 'Royal Baby', better than all other baby's. This video also represents the royals in a positive manor as the film shows Kate&William smiling and the large crowds cheering for them, making it seem like a huge and special occasion, instead of showing just an average family leaving the hospital, this again shows the class of the family as they have to be watched and interviewed instead of them just leaving the hospital like a normal family.

Gender: In this Film 'Green Street Hooligans" men are represented in a negative way as they are portrayed to be Hooligans who just want to fight and cause trouble all of the time. This is not the case as not all men are into fighting a causing trouble at football matches, the majority are actually decent working people with families. It also makes men out to be obsessed with football, when in reality not all men are fans of football.

Age: In this video age is represented in both a negative and a positive way. It is shown in a negative way as in the video it is showing how the elder generation of people are discriminated against and are rejected from certain jobs because of their age. However it also shows that the elderly are able to work, just like younger people, it shows that they are still able to battle for what they deserve and that they should not be discriminated against.

The EastEnders character Syed Masood

Sexuality: In Eastenders a Muslim character called 'Sahid'  came out as gay on the show, due to him being from a Muslim family, Sahid being homosexual was portrayed in a negative way. This could also link into Race as it is portraying people of the Muslim faith in a bad way due to the Muslim family in Eastenders not accepting their sons sexuality.

Race: This is a positive representation of a particular race (jewish) due to it eliminating any stereotypes of the jewish culture. In this TV show we can see that this family is not anything other than the standard british family. This family in 'Friday Night Dinner' is completely different to you're stereotypical Jewish family as they do not have the characteristics of the Jewish religion, as none of them are wearing traditional Jewish clothes.
