300:Rise of the empire Visual Codes

Visual Codes
The colour red is scattered all over the screen at the beginning of the trailer. The colour red often indicates danger and blood. This colour is used specifically to show that the film is violent straight from the beginning. We then see a bladed looking weapon approaching the throat of the man on the floor. Low key lighting is used to show the theme of the film, which is quite war heavy and dark. High and Low key lighting is also used to show the two different sides of good and evil, for example the white purity of good and the blackness and fire of evil. This film in the trailer looks to be set in various different places, from battles on the seas to dark streets in ancient Rome. The majority of this film seems to be set in dark and gloomy environments with battles happening constantly. We can also get a feel to when this film was set due to what the characters are wearing, they are wearing ancient armour with swords and shields, this shows the film is set in non modern day as wars are no longer fought with swords and shields.

Audio Codes
Non diegetic music is played throughout the film trailer. The music being played is quite classical music  which indicates the era of which this film is set. The non diegetic music stops and starts throughout the trailer mainly to highlight dramatic parts of the film where the it all goes quiet and the focus is on the diegetic sound of the characters.

Technical codes
The camera angle of a medium shot is used at the beginning of the trailer, it is used to show the man with a large axe, this shows the audience viewing the trailer the type of aggression this character has towards the man on the floor. Then a close up of the man on the floor is shown, this is to show his facial expression. The axe is noticeable also in this close up as you can see it slowly approaching his face, the axe is slowly travelling film.
